I just realized how lucky I am that the Indians traded Roberts to LA. I get to see Roberts play whenever the Dodgers are on the tube.
Roberts is amazing. I have seen him steal two bases so far. Both times the batter kept his bat on his shoulder, no protection swing needed for Dave Roberts.
Both times that Roberts has stolen a base the ball was pretty much pitched over the plate, both times Roberts beat the throw to second by so much that even a perfect throw wouldn't have gotten him out. Roberts gets to second before the ball has even reached the glove of the covering infielder.
Wow.
His steps to second are absolutely perfect. When I watch Omar Vizquel attempt to steal he has this microscopic sideways waddle in his hips that slow him down. That is why Omar gets nipped all the time and Roberts doesn't (that and Roberts is younger).
Whenever Roberts gets on base, the opposing pitcher, catcher, and dugout are all relaying messages and signs on what to do, but it's basically irrelevant.
About the only way they'll get the guy out on an attempted steal is if they throw a straight fastball over the plate, and for sure the batter will crunch that pitch.
I don't think Roberts would have thrived as well in Cleveland because of the cold weather and the Indians attitude after being spoiled for so many years by hitters such as Belle, Ramirez, Alomar, Thome, etc.

He's made a couple of web-gem catches, too.
Roberts is one that got away, but I think Coco will be right there with him.

Yeah, Coco does remind me of Roberts.
Roberts is hitting over .300 now with an OBP of .388 and is leading the league in stolen bases with 9.
Roberts only steals when it's necessary, he's not stat padding at all.
I want to see this guy in the All-Star Game as a starter or reserve, THIS YEAR.
Go Dave.
